Just 35 minutes north of Nuevo surf the waves of Sayulita or travel by horseback to the waterfalls of the remote fishing village of Yelapa. Birdwatchers will be thrilled by the motorized-dugout tour through lagoons and mangrove glades to the springs of La Tovara, where over 300 species have been identified. Also, visit Punta Mita and the beautiful Marieta Islands Wildlife Reserve, with abundant dolphins, sea turtles, giant mantas, blue footed boobies and (between December and April) humpback whales, who come there to mate and give birth. Snorkle, kayak or dive in the crystalline waters off these craggy islands, or take a three-to-four-hour launch tour from either La Cruz de Huanacaxtle or El Anclote.
